BadReviewsTO. is a Toronto based performing arts magazine born of a simple desire: to have a conversation with you!
That’s really it.
You know that feeling you get, when you leave somewhere– a theatre, a cinema, a concert– and the first thing you do is turn to your companion and say: “Well, what’d you think?” BadReviews was born out of a collection of those moments. The “I loved it,” the “I didn’t get it,” the hushed, excited half whispers as we all awkwardly shuffle out of the auditorium. Those reviews, the ones that occupied the air between you for a few minutes, never written down, those are the ones that matter. That is performance art.
So, we decided to try something a little different. We wanted to write reviews that focus less on the nitty-gritty and more on the conversation, the parts that made you think, and the parts you’ll remember. We’re not critics, you won’t find mentions of how the satirical themes of the second half didn’t land with the right punch. But you’ll be part of the conversation.
